The measurement carried out between December 2019 and June 2020 indicated that the fixed internet is concentrated in the Metropolitan Area of Greater Santiago, Greater Valparaíso and Greater Concepción. While, in communes like La Pintana, only one out of every three households is connected to the internet.

At the national level, 56% of households have an internet connection according to the study. Pablo Cereceda, director of links at “Con @ cción” pointed out that today being connected to the internet through fiber optics is a basic need.

Along these lines, the Undersecretary of Telecommunications, Pamela Gidi emphasized that companies have an undemocratic deployment directly related to the levels of economic resources and the remoteness of rural sectors.

Subtel presented an action plan that within its points is a 5G public tender that seeks to deploy fiber optics covering 90% of the population within a maximum period of three years with territorial and massive equity.
