The General Council of the Radical Party (PR) unanimously proclaimed the helmsman of the community, Carlos Maldonado, as his candidate for the Presidency of the Republic.
The decision was settled during midnight, after the council began at about 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Once his proclamation was announced, Maldonado stated: “I love the Radical Party my whole life. I am the son and grandson of radicals. I will tackle this challenge that you have entrusted to me with the same strength, with the same conviction, with the same passion with which I was a university leader in the times of the dictatorship ”.

“With the same passion and strength with which I assumed the presidency of the Radical Youth, after having been a community, regional and national leader of the party; with the honor that I had to represent the party in the first government of President Bachelet; and with the honor that I have felt enormous to preside over the Radical Party, the party that has done the most for the well-being of Chilean women and men throughout its history ”, she continued.
Finally, the president of the PR promised to “leave every last drop of effort to represent with dignity the flags of radicalism at the height of our history and ideals ”.
