Quique Neira releases after her disappointed virtual show: “I fell prey to this bias 20 years ago”

Expectation, astonishment, anxiety, anger and, finally, laughter. This could summarize the last trip of Kike Neira, the progression of emotions that the national singer experienced over the past seven days in his house in Batuko, the commune of Lamps.

A week after the failed streaming concert last Thursday, April 2, the same as six days later turning his name into a hot topic, the reggae singer decided to take a chain reaction that provoked humor and revealed For the third evening the true reasons for “Quique-gate” . Thus, he categorically denies that his inability to sing was caused by “pallor” or intoxication due to marijuana, as noted on social networks; He suffers from heat stroke and admits that he used cannabis that day, but in the form of herbal tea, to recover from a swoon.

“I saw some talking about pallor, but it was a little decompensation from heat stroke. Fortunately, there was nothing serious about it, says former vocalist Gondwana, already fully recovered and busy in recent hours, downloading messages laughing at the situation.

What exactly happened that day? “Last week, there was a record temperature in April, the day I decided to perform live. I have already given two live concerts with great success, and I wanted to do something else, outdoors. Here in Batuko there are always two or three degrees more than the marks on the thermometer, there must have been 36 degrees. I left moving equipment early in the sun, I was in it all day. At 5 o’clock in the afternoon I felt strange, I felt moistened and prepared for the show, and when he left I felt strange, absent-minded, at some point I sang and forgot some of the text. I felt like I was about to disappear, and there I said that it’s better to stop broadcasting because I don’t feel good, and I’m afraid that something will happen on camera, thousands of people are watching it, ”he says.

Despite everything, you decided to take what happened, not seriously, and laugh at the situation.

I am not going to deny you that at first I was a little angry. In the first case, I was reminded how people were biased towards the moment when he transmitted this unfortunate moment to Alvaro Henriques some time ago (in 2018, when there was an erratic show in Talagant due to liver damage). Everyone went out to attack him, and then it became known that he was somehow connected with what he was accused of. The same thing happened with Jorge Gonzalez at that time. There are many prejudices, realizing that what happened to these colleagues was much more serious. So in the beginning it causes a bit of anger, which can make me feel uncomfortable, and people think that the shot is pale. But then I had to laugh, join the joke, I fully know what it was. This also happens right in this scenario, in which we are all in quarantine, everyone is worried, with insecurity, and you say, of course, that the artist’s mission also sometimes makes people laugh and forget about all this stress.

Why do you think there is prejudice with you?

I was a victim of this prejudice 20 years ago when at the Vigne festival I proposed the idea that freedom of choice can be guaranteed that if someone wants to smoke marijuana, there is no need to create such a scandal or to pursue it. And just because I said that one day I will put this problem on my shoulder so that people reward me with everything related to marijuana. In the end, I take it with humor, but it’s unbelievable that I have to write so much for something like that, because I feel that for my career I am making news for other things that seem much more relevant from an artistic point of view .

In any case, if it were really intoxication, it would not be so serious, would it?

If he were pale, I would recognize him within reach, but decided to feed the joke a little. The reality is that for recovery I had herbal tea, a leaf of marijuana.

Having overcome the joke, Quique Neira decided to focus on new projects. In the meantime, this Saturday, on his birthday, he will perform a new virtual show from his home. “The opportunity to get desire from what was expected,” he says.

“I don’t know if another Chilean or international artist can say that he has released four albums in a row for several years. If I succeed, I’m going to set a milestone that is still interesting, ”he closes.
