Punta Arenas, Arica and Puerto Montt lead in active cases nationwide and only two communes of Greater Santiago have more than 200 active infections

The evolution of the pandemic in the Magallanes Region continues to worry the Ministry of Health and, in fact, today the Undersecretary of Public Health, Paula Daza, qualified the situation as “review”. A reflection of this is that the regional capital, Punta Arenas remains the commune with the most active cases in the country, despite the sanitary restrictions that have been implemented in the area.

According to 58th Minsal Epidemiological Report -published this Saturday-, the city registers 1,371 active infections. This figure represents a decrease with respect to the previous document, however, It continues to more than double the communes that follow it in this indicator: Arica and Puerto Montt.

In addition, both Arica and Puerto Montt increased their figures of positive assets in relation to Wednesday report. It should also be remembered that the capital of Los Lagos has had a rapid rise, going from fifth place – last week – to third on October 7, a place it maintained this time.

In the Metropolitan Region, meanwhile, only two communes of Greater Santiago exceed 200 active infections: Maipú (255) and Puente Alto (367).

On the other hand, of the areas with the highest rate of incidence of assets -number of infections per 100,000 inhabitants-, most of them belong to Magallanes. In fact, of the ten municipalities with the highest figures in this index, six are from that region.

Along with the latest epidemiological report, the Minsal also published the weekly report of deaths of the Department of Statistics and Health Information (DEIS). According to this update, as of October 8 there were almost 18 thousand confirmed and suspected deaths from Covid-19.

Currently there 4,684 deaths that are not yet proven to be due to the virus. While a total of 13,272 -the figure that Salud gave this morning in its daily balance- they have been ratified.

The Metropolitan Region is the most affected, with 9,470 deaths since the start of the pandemic. They are followed by Valparaíso (939) and Antofagasta (510).

Likewise, it was detailed that 57.6% of the total confirmed deaths are men.
