“A few weeks ago, he had a very critical situation and today we have seen that the number of active cases and the rate of positivity have been decreasing”, said this morning the Undersecretary of Public Health, Paula Daza, referring to the health situation in the Magallanes Region.
The southern region has been one of the focuses of attention of the authorities due to the number of cases of Covid-19, and also after its capital, Punta Arenas, It will be positioned -at the end of August- as the municipality with the highest number of active infections. A situation that changed this Saturday.
According to the 62nd Epidemiological Report -published this afternoon-, it is currently the commune of Montt port the one that leads this indicator. And in fact, the first three places are occupied by the municipalities belonging to regions that concern the Minsal: La Araucanía, Los Lagos and Magallanes.
Thus, currently Puerto Montt registers 425 cases that can spread the coronavirus; followed by Punta Arenas (410), Temuco (381) and, in fourth place, Arica (319).
It should be noted that all these communes -and in general, at the national level- reported a decrease in this indicator; for example, Punta Arenas went from 753 active positives in the previous report to 410. Undersecretary Daza referred to the issue this morning and explained that This was influenced by the change in the duration of the isolation period for active cases, which went from 14 to 11 days.
At the regional level, meanwhile, Metropolitan Region continues to be the one with the largest number of assets: 2,723; followed by Biobío (1,795), Los Lagos (1,430) and La Araucanía (1,036).
And in relation to asset incidence rate -that is, infections per 100,000 inhabitants- it is the Magallanes Region that occupies the first place.
On the other hand, the 19th weekly report of deaths from Covid-19 of the Department of Health Statistics and Information (Deiss).
According to this document, from the start of the pandemic to October 22, a total of 18,690 confirmed and suspected deaths from the virus have been recorded.
The deaths that still have not been confirmed as caused by the coronavirus amount to 4,798, while those ratified are 13,892, being the Metropolitan Region the most affected in the country.
