He 81st Epidemiological Report of the Ministry of Health, released last night, a statement that as of December 27, 685,357 cases of covid-19 have occurred in Chile. Of that total, 602,028 have laboratory confirmation and 83,329 are probable. In addition, the report records 21,921 confirmed and probable deaths.
The highest cumulative incidence rates per 100,000 inhabitants, according to laboratory-confirmed cases, are found in the Magallanes Region (10,141.7), the Tarapacá Region (4,735.4) and the Metropolitan Region (4,407.1).
Regarding the figures by commune, in the Metropolitan Region there are still 10 that account for more than 100 active cases. These are Puente Alto (350), Maipú (252), La Florida (214), Santiago (200), Las Condes (200), Pudahuel (179), Peñalolén (156), Renca (121), San Bernardo (110) and Ñuñoa (108).
Meanwhile, in the rest of the country there are 26 communes that exceed one hundred cases, and are led by Puerto Montt (540), Iquique (461), Chillán (451) and Curicó (408). It is precisely these last two that show the most worrying cases of the day. While Chillán increased its active cases by 34%, Curicó did so by 21%.
Finally, The 10 communes in the country with the most active cases are Puerto Montt (540), Iquique (461), Chillán (451), Curicó (408), Antofagasta (367), Los Ángeles (331), Punta Arenas (324), Temuco ( 309), Concepción (356) and Talcahuano (246).
Profile of the infected patient
Of the confirmed and probable notified cases, the median age is 38 years, where 6.7% corresponded to persons under 15 years of age, 24.53% to persons aged 15-29 years, and 29.35% to persons 30-44 years, 28.5% to people 45-64 years, and the remaining 10.9% to adults 65 and over.
Likewise, at the national level there are 15,573 active cases of coronavirus. This represents a decrease of 7% compared to the previous epidemiological report, prepared with data as of December 24.
The data indicate that infections decreased in all regions, except in Maule, Ñuble and Aysén, where they rose 11%, 12 and 16%, respectively. Thus, the regions with the highest concentration of active cases continue to be the Metropolitan (3,802), Biobío (2,625) and Los Lagos (1,497).
