The Cañete Guarantee Court rejected preventive detention for the three defendants for their alleged participation in the arson attack against a boarding school in Lanalhue.

The three people identified as Isaac Torres Rodríguez, José Irulao Juanillo and Flavio Machuca Huaiquiñir, were arrested during the early hours of this Friday for their possible participation in the burning of the Pedro Etchepare school and the boarding school of the enclosure.

Prosecutor Juan Yáñez, who is exclusively dedicated to investigating acts of rural violence, had requested the aforementioned precautionary measure, however, this would have been rejected due to the weakness of the evidence.

For this reason, the Public Ministry was charging the crimes of reception, robbery, fire, and illegal possession of weapons and ammunition.

In addition, during the formalization the court was informed of the seizure of lockers, a blackboard, a stove, among other species, all in the possession of the community members.

Along with rejecting preventive detention, Magistrate Macarena Bobadilla granted minor precautions, such as total house arrest for José Irulao, and the prohibition to go to school for Flavio Machuca, leaving Isaac Torres completely free.

However, the defendants must wait, deprived of their liberty, for the Concepción Court to resolve the appeal of the Prosecutor’s Office, which will insist before the appeal court on the requested preventive detention. Until then, the three community members will remain in the Bío Bío prison.
