The San Bernardo Guarantee Court decreed preventive detention for the former captain of the Carabineros, Patricio maturana, the only person charged for the injuries that left blind Fabiola Campillai.
The ex-uniformed man had recently been detained in Curicó by the Human Rights Brigade of the Investigative Police, after he was accused of being the author of the tear gas bomb that hit the woman.
Maturana was discharged in mid-August after the administrative summary carried out in the Carabineros to investigate what happened to Campillai, who – in addition to sight – lost two other senses: taste and smell.
The accusation
The High Complexity prosecutor, Paola Zárate, detailed during the formalization hearing that Maturana – contrary to the instructions of the public order manual – fired straight ahead and directed her directly at the people who were demonstrating in the place.
The projectile, as is known, hit Campillai, who was accompanied by his sister.
Based on the events reported by the persecutor, the man was formalized for illegitimate pressure and for serious and very serious injuries.
“We are with a little hope, happy, we hope that this continues and that there is not much time for him to make his judgment and we can get out of this,” said the victim this morning.
The court set an investigation period of 90 days, during which time – if there is no judicial action from the defense – Maturana will have to be held in the Pudahuel Norte sub-police station.
