The president of the Medical College (Colmed), Izkia Siches participated this Tuesday in the commission that reviews the constitutional accusation against the former Minister of Health, Jaime Mañalich. In the instance, the leader of Colmed accused the former head of the Minsal of weakening institutional credibility.
“Our Ministry of Health, led by Jaime Mañalich, further weakened institutional credibility, with reckless recklessness in handling data,” Siches said.
“There could be negligence and / or inexperience by not following the recommendations of the advisory council and abandoning the strategies to control the pandemic,” he added.
In statements collected by Cooperative, the health professional said that Mañalich “did not listen to the experts; it produced poor health outcomes, despite knowing what had to be done.”
He also emphasized the creation of a “parallel system” for counting cases, something that was raised by the head of the Minsal’s Health Planning Division (Diplas).
“It is not so relevant for the Medical College what happens with the former Minister of Health, but it is that the institutions are respected (…) and we can have better results in the next pandemic,” Siches said.
Also present at the commission was the head of Epidemiology of the Minsal, Rafael Araos, who referred to the number of deaths in the pandemic. In this regard, he maintained that “the second half of May is when excess mortality really begins to be appreciated, it becomes very important in June, it begins to decrease in July, and we are approaching an average of between 40 and 50 deaths a day “.
Araos explained that “our excess mortality is explained almost 100 percent by deaths due to Covid, and it means that we are counting the deaths in Chile very well.”
