25 years after the debut of Long live monday, the famous star of Channel 13, one of the episodes that continues to generate the most intrigue in viewers is the one that starred in the remembered “Polyglot” Lebanese who visited the program in 1997.
We talk about Ziad fazah, who was heralded back then as a virtuous polyglot and an expert in 58 languages; knowledge that he tried to test live and without success in front of the thousands of viewers of the program.
23 years after the milestone, the newspaper La Cuarta contacted Ziad to elucidate what really happened that night in the nineties.
Since Porto Alegre, Brazil, told his version of the events: “I was already afraid to be put to the test (…). A man from Argentina invited me, and he was the one who betrayed me a lot, “he said.
Regarding his remembered mistakes on the screen, he explained: “It is that a polyglot, even if he handles himself in many languages, if he does not practice them, he can forget them. They told me it was going to be an interview in Spanish, but then things changed ”.
Today, the polyglot has 67 years and he remembers with sadness his debut on local TV: “I had gone to Chile to prove that I was a true polyglot, who learned different languages in three years. But I was afraid of being tested in such difficult languages, which I had not practiced for a long time. The truth was, it was a giant embarrassment “, he pointed.
Despite the bad experience, Fazah has good memories of the country: “That’s right… People have a lot of culture in Chile. In fact, when I had my steps through the program, I felt that the public that was there supported me psychologically. I never forgot the Chilean people ”, he pointed out.
The only ones he remembers with annoyance are the teachers who questioned him from the audience: “I’m sure that the Hindu man, who made me read one of the messages, was envious of me. I think he wanted me to not be able to read it to say that I was not a polyglot.
“The one who spoke to me in Mandarin Chinese did it super fast, so that he would not understand. It was a great trap to bring me down, “he added.
“Today, if I want to speak languages, I need two weeks to practice it. That’s the truth, I need that time to speak it skillfully. I am old! When I was in Chile I was a gentleman, now I don’t even have hair, hahaha ”, he explained.
