The Ministry of Health confirmed that tomorrow Sunday they will be established random controls 20 meters from each polling station, to prevent people infected with covid-19 from entering to vote. The measure will be in charge of personnel from the Carabineros as well as from the Health Department of each region.
From the Public Ministry they assure that the people who are active cases and who are going to vote will be arrested and will not be able to vote for breaching article 318 of the Penal Code.
The undersecretary of Healthcare Networks, Arturo Zúñiga, explained that the information on active cases will be determined with the Epivigila system.
Meanwhile, the Minister of the Interior, Víctor Pérez, pointed out that each institution will act according to its powers, specifying that Carabineros cannot inspect the interior of the electoral precincts.
The president of the National Association of Prosecutors Claudio Uribe, assured that “it does not make sense” for an infected person to vote while at the polling station, since they will be detained the moment it is detected.
In turn, the Undersecretary of Public Health Paula Daza, said that during the voting process, the removal of the mask will be requested for 3 seconds, to confirm the identification of the person.
Likewise, Health authorities again made a call to maintain personal protection measures and physical distance between people, to avoid new infections while the plebiscite is developed.
