Piñera: “After so many hard months, employment is beginning to recover”

He President Sebastián Piñera valued the figures delivered this Wednesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), which showed a slight decrease in unemployment -to 12.9 percent- in the June-August quarter.

The figure is somewhat lower than the 13.1 percent of the May-July moving quarter, but it shows the effect of the pandemic: it is 5.3 percentage points higher than in June-August 2019, product of reductions in 14.5% of the workforce and 19.4% of the employed.

“I think, after so many hard months, so many difficult news, it is good to share good news“said Piñera.

“We are beginning to see how employment begins to recoverBefore we were destroying jobs, (and now) we are starting to create jobs“, assured the President.

“We still know that we have a long way to go “he added, “because we had lost a little more than 1,800,000 jobs, and With this creation in the last quarter, the loss is 1 million 735 thousand jobs“, he detailed.

The recovery of the country is a “great task, a great challenge that – I hope – is something that unites us, brings us together, motivates us together to work to recover those jobs,” Piñera concluded.
