This Tuesday, after learning of the support that the Chamber of Deputies gave to the second retirement project of 10% of AFP, President Sebastián Piñera reacted to the news calling for precaution and pension responsibility.
Specifically, and from La Araucanía, the Head of State indicated that this new retirement project “Of course it is a help for today”, although he said he thought that what is going to happen tomorrow cannot be “neglected”.
“I understand that the needs are enormous and that families need a lot of help and that explains the withdrawal of 10%, but I want to tell my compatriots that, in addition to facing the emergency we are experiencing today, that it is of course a priority of the Government, also we have to take charge of improving pensions, current and future pensioners and therefore what the government has tried to do is make these two things compatible, ”Piñera said in statements collected by Emol.
After that, the President echoed an analysis by the consulting firm Ciedess that warned at the end of October that with this new withdrawal they will be four million people could be left without balances in their accounts35% of all AFP affiliates.
“I want to say very frankly that with the withdrawal that was approved today in the Chamber, four million Chileans will be left with zero pension savings and that will mean a sharp drop in their pensions,” he added.
“That is something that the Government worries us, because we not only have to take charge of what happens today, we have to look up and see what happens tomorrow “Piñera commented.
“The withdrawal of 10% of course is a help today, but it reduces pensions and we have to avoid that in order to improve today’s situation we have many people with unworthy pensions ”, the Governor settled.
These sayings by Piñera are in line with the statements issued tonight by Ignacio Briones, Minister of Finance, who slipped a criticism against the pro-government parliamentarians who supported that this project is now in the hands of the Senate, with a total of 130 votes in favor.
