The actress Paulina García, spoke with the live “Los Reyes del Drama”, and revealed the reasons why he stopped participating in soap operas.

García has obtained great international recognition for his participation in films such as “Gloria”, “The bride of the desert” and the recently released “Some Beasts”. She has also stood out abroad playing Pablo Escobar’s mother in the hit Netflix series “Narcos”.

The actress made her last soap opera in 1990, on TVN, called “El Milagro de Vivir”, starring Consuelo Holzapfel, but without a doubt one of the most remembered is the sinister Adriana Godán from “Los Títeres” (1984).

After this, her career has been devoted to teaching, theatrical directing and outstanding appearances in film and television series such as “Cárcel de Mujeres” or “Los archivos del Cardenal”.

“THERE WAS A FOOLISH INCIDENT THAT WAS CHARGED TO ME FOREVER. THEY WON’T LET ME ENTER THE CHANNEL “

Paulina García had her last important role in a television series in “La Invitación” (1987) on Channel 13. A suspense series that lost in audience to “My name is Lara” on TVN. According to Paulina, Channel 13 blamed the cast for this failure. After this, she had two appearances on TVN and was not called again.

“When I saw that I had been trying to get a job for two or three years, in the early nineties, where there was nothing more to do than television to earn a living. I tried and saw that the doors would not open anywhere and stopped trying. Thus the opportunity disappears, “he said. She also recalled that the offers she had did not meet her expectations: “It was to go in to say that dinner was served… I asked myself if I had the character to resist working that way. I am very strong as an actress to pretend that I don’t mind having a small character. They didn’t need me, ”he confessed. After this, he began to dedicate himself to directing and dramaturgy, which allowed him to take classes and then film.

Regarding the incident that she mentioned that triggered her departure from Channel 13 during the recordings of the television series “La Invitación”, Paulina recalls that it occurred after she gave an acute interview to the newspaper “El Fortín Mapocho” and someone took a copy to the producer general of that time. “The producer had no choice but to kick me out. They titled “Paulina García accuses …” and I came out pointing with my finger.

“CURRENTLY THERE IS A LOW ACTORAL LEVEL IN TELESERIES”

During the interview, Paulina makes a crude criticism of the world of soap operas: “It is a heteronormed, class and racist system. For a long time the system has been very fascist. I think it was even less fascist during the dictatorship than after ”.

He highlighted the powerful story that was told in the television series “Los Títeres” where a revenge of one woman against another was exposed, on the other hand, during the nineties and today the romanticism in the stories was deeply accentuated which, in his opinion, diluted the stories. “We tried to make teleseries showing Chile but they were also very heteronormed. Guys who threw mines and that was shown as something super chorus. Men who talked to the penis while driving. Insulting rudeness towards women that surprises me that we have tolerated and normalized everything. We had naturalized that way of relating to men with women ”, he argues.
