Media in the United States announced a new case of super contagion of COVID-19 that occurred at a party, which left a fairly negative balance: 37 people infected and more than 200 in quarantine.
It happened in a neighborhood on Long Island, New York, where a 16-year-old teenager celebrated her birthday “in a big way”, with 81 guests and breaking the sanitary rule.
According to the CBS chain, the celebration took place on September 25 in an event room called Miller Place Inn, which was fined $ 12,000 (9,384,000 pesos) for allowing the over-entry of people.
So far they have been reported 37 people infected since that event, of which 29 attended it.
Suffolk County authorities maintained that at least seven of these infections were due to domestic contact with a carrier, while one case was due to close contact with one of the attendees.
Likewise, the New York government identified 334 close contacts, to which 270 people were placed in mandatory quarantine. Most of the latter are parents and siblings of people already infected.
In addition, eight schools in that county reported having positive cases of coronavirus, all of them linked to the party that occurred at the end of September.
“We’ve never had a super-spreading event like this in Suffolk County. People must act responsibly or the economy will suffer, ”Governor Andrew Cuomo said.
“They had a ‘Sweet 16’ party. How sweet. Well, it wasn’t that sweet. Dozens of people at the ‘Sweet 16’ party fell ill. This shows how a single event can generate so many cases ”, added.
It should be noted that Suffolk County is leading a worrying increase in infections in New York State, which was the most affected by the pandemic during the fall in the United States.
That is why the authority is evaluating closing non-essential businesses in these areas and prohibiting meetings of more than 10 people in closed spaces.
