The Minister of Health, Enrique Paris, recognized this Thursday the rebound in Covid-19 cases that Metropolitan region is experiencing in the last days.
“We agree that there is a slight rise, which is close to between 7 and 10 percent, depending on each commune”said the Secretary of State at a press conference.
Anyway, said Paris, “if we compare the figures for May with those for November, in May the maximum number of cases in the Metropolitan Region reached 4,300 cases, and the maximum reached in November, so far, is 350 cases “.
Likewise, the head of the Minsal stressed that if the effective reproductive number (Re) of the outbreak was 1.7 last May, currently that index is 1.1.
“Therefore, we accept that there is an increase, yes, but it is much less than what happened in the worst time of the pandemic”, he concluded.
Chile, where the borders are already open, registered this Thursday 97 new deaths from Covid-19, the highest figure since the end of September.
The health authorities also reported that they were detected in the last 24 hours 1,564 new cases, with the total balance rising from the beginning of March to 545,662 infections and 15,235 deaths, to which should be added almost 5,000 “suspicious” deaths that are awaiting a PCR.
The positivity rate has been stable for weeks and in the last 24 hours it was 4.3 percent, after more than 36,100 PCR tests were performed.
