Serious incidents were recorded on Friday night in the southern city of Panguipulli, in the Los Ríos Region, in protest of the death of Francisco Martínez, juggler who was shot several times by a carabinero during an identity check in the heart of the town.
Protesters set up barricades in different parts of the commune, while the municipal building was set on fire after 23:00.

The fire also affected the facilities of four other public buildings: Correos, the Civil Registry, Essal and Chile Atiende.

In a video widely shared on social media, recorded by a motorist, you can see how the juggler is approached by police officers after allegedly resisting an identity check.
As they argued one of the agents shoots twice, at which the young man attacks and draws two long elements of his street spectacle – similar to sabers – and is finally shot down.

“As a Government, we regret the situation that occurred this afternoon in Panguipulli, where in a street incident that is being investigated, a person died on the public highway after a police officer used his service weapon,” said the mayor of Los Ríos, Cesar Asenjo.
From Carabineros, Lieutenant Colonel Boris Alegría, Chief of Operations of the Tenth Zone of the militarized police, defended the actions of the uniformed man involved in the death of the juggler, insisting that he acted legitimate defense.
“This was about an identity control procedure carried out by the police in the Plaza de Armas. In this identity control, the police ordered him to put his machetes aside. This person did not do it and, on the contrary, he lunged at the police personnel, at which the police fired warning shots to the ground “, said the police authority.
“Immediately afterwards, this person persisted in going on top of the police officers before which they, safeguarding their own integrity, their own life, decided and had to use firearms”he added.
