Oxford-AstraZeneca: Details of the vaccine and the 6 million doses arriving from March-April | National

This Wednesday the expert committee of the Institute of Public Health approved the use of the British vaccine Oxford-AstraZeneca. In this regard, the ISP itself and the government authorities evaluated the decision and provided details about the vaccine.

The Phase 3 study was led by the University of Chile and enrolled more than 2,000 volunteers. Dr. Sergio Vargas, one of the researchers in charge of the tests conducted by the public campus, said that the approval “is the result of the rigorous analysis that the ISP has carried out, of the published clinical studies that conclude that the vaccine meets the requirements of quality, safety, and efficacy ”.

For her part, Dr. María Elena Santolaya, who directed the tests at the Luis Calvo Mackenna Hospital, pointed out that “This is excellent news because we already have three excellent vaccines approved for use in Chile, we have the possibility of offering an effective and safe vaccine to the most vulnerable population, those who are over 60 years old”.

Before noon and unanimously, the group of experts from the Public Health Institute (ISP), in charge of reviewing the safety and effectiveness of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, approved its use in Chile, which includes the distribution of more than 6 million dosage for over 18 years.

Heriberto García, director (s) of the Institute of Public Health, pointed out that “The approval will be made for people over 18 in the resolution without prejudice to the comments that will be posted and disseminated in the technical sheet that we will publish soon.”

As attached data, the formula developed by AstraZeneca in conjunction with the University of Oxford requires two doses administered 28 days apart.

As specified in a press point held at the Palacio de La Moneda, 6 million doses will be received in the country. It is expected that 4 million will arrive at the end of March or the beginning of April and they will be distributed until June and, subsequently, 2.6 million doses will be received, whose delivery schedule is yet to be defined.

Government celebrates approval

The Undersecretary of Public Health, Paula Daza, called it “very good news” that the ISP Advisory Council approved the emergency use of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine.

“We know that it is a vaccine that is safe and effective, and will allow us to continue with the vaccination schedule of our country”Daza stated.

For her part, the deputy minister of the Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation portfolio, Carolina Torrealba, mentioned: “Less than a year after the pandemic was declared, the world of science has managed to find concrete answers to be able to face this crisis through research, innovation and creation of new technologies that today focus on vaccines that have proven to be safe for the population ”.

Meanwhile, the undersecretary of International Economic Relations, Rodrigo Yáñez, explained that “this goes hand in hand with the contracts that the Government has been managing with the AstraZeneca Laboratory and the Covax mechanism that it will allow us to acquire 6,650,000 doses starting in March and April, during the first quarter of 2021 to achieve the goal of having 15 million vaccines to immunize the bulk of the target population ”.
