In the Guarantee Court of Viña del Mar, the formalization hearing was held this Tuesday against the 3 defendants in the case of Overtime of the Municipality of the city of Jardín.

They are Pablo Staig, director of legal advice; Manuel Echeverría, director of the finance area; and the accountant Javier Garrido, for being the perpetrators of the crime of embezzlement of public funds, for an amount that would amount to 56 million pesos.

The prosecutor of the Regional Anticorruption Unit, Patricio Toro, reported that within the next few months the mayor of Viña del Mar, Virginia Reginato, will be summoned to testify to learn of her participation in the events.

Along the same lines, Deputy Rodrigo González, one of the complainants in the case, pointed to the mayor as the only person responsible for the incident.

In this same instance, in which a hearing for precautionary guarantees was rejected, requested a few days ago by one of the plaintiffs’ lawyers, who sought to review the antecedents again, considering that they were not accurate, since the first complaint presented in the case was in 2012, and with it the amount defrauded would increase.

Something that the lawyer, Javier Gómez, continues to question.

Because on this occasion they were unable to intervene, they are analyzing the possibility of requesting a new hearing in order to request preventive detention.

Regarding the investigation, it was set within 150 days and the defendants risk a penalty of up to 3 years and 1 day in prison.
