The Magallanes Health Ministry confirmed that all those infected by covid-19 and close contacts at the O’Higgins Base in Chilean Antarctica were transferred to Punta Arenas, so there are no more active cases in the area.
Given the confirmation of the outbreak of coronavirus infections this Monday in Antarctica, the surrogate Health Minister of Magallanes, Eduardo Castillo, confirmed that all infected people and close contacts are no longer on the white continent.
Castillo pointed out that “from the health point of view, at this moment we have all the people who were positive that have been detected, here, or close contacts in Punta Arenas, fulfilling isolation and quarantine ”.
“Technically at this time in Antarctica neither positive covid nor close contacts, either the case that was detected in Villa Las Estrellas as O’Higgins Base,” he said.
It should be remembered that the Army reported that 26 military personnel and 10 civil servants who were carrying out maintenance at the Antarctic station were infected at O’Higgins Base.
It should be noted that the outbreak in Antarctica has caused a follow-up by the main information agencies in the world for the infections detected there, which was the only place in the world without coronavirus.
