An official letter was sent today by all the opposition senators to the President Sebastián Piñera. The objective of the text was to deliver a list of nine requests regarding the measures that the government has implemented to face the coronavirus crisis, among which the President was asked to strengthen the leadership of the interior ministers, Gonzalo Blumel and Social Development, Sebastian Sichel, above the holder of Health, Jaime Mañalich.
The document – which was distributed by the head of the Christian Democracy committee, Ximena Rincon– This occurs after the different questions that the Secretary of State has received from some parliamentarians from the center-left. This, after the different communicational controversies that Mañalich has carried out in the framework of the fight against the advance of this disease.
“From the point of view of emergency management, We request that in the face of the ongoing controversy in which the Minister of Health finds himself, the presence and leadership of the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Social Development be strengthened, guaranteeing the strengthening of an empathetic, direct, collaborative, and dialogue communication, in order to strengthen the trust that the community places in the governmental authority, ”reads the letter signed by the 24 senators from the center-left.
In this sense, the parliamentarians again questioned the conduct of the Secretary of State and added that the portfolios led by Blumel and Sichel would incorporate “an approach of greater integration, intersectorality and social approach, in a catastrophe that not only requires sanitary measures, but that he should mainly put his energies into people. “
Likewise, the brief criticizes the idea of the Executive called “Safe Return” and requests that it suspend the return to face-to-face work of public officials, a situation that had already opened a conflict between La Moneda and the center-left.
In this sense, the senators described as “inconsistent” and “contradictory” some measures that the government has promoted, which even, they point out, could be “irresponsible and dangerous”.
“The Government installed the idea of” safe return “and has encouraged the opening of shops and the greater flow of people, seeking to install a dangerous return to the face-to-face work of public officials. The message of ‘stay at home’ and not exposing himself has been inconsistent, contradictory with measures and discourse that he has insistently sought to establish that the conditions would be in place to resume activities, ”they say.
In addition, the opposition parliamentarians summoned the Executive to expand the economic benefits to face the health crisis, however, they assured that as a sector they would not be available to support measures “that increase the risk in the face of a threat such as this pandemic.”
“Notwithstanding the foregoing, this cannot imply that we are available to support or remain silent in the face of measures that increase the risk in the face of a threat such as this pandemic, since above the government, officialism and opposition are the people to whom we swore / promised serve ”, they argued.
