The opposition benches in the Senate proclaimed Yasna Provoste (DC) as the future president of the Upper House table, in an election that will be held next week and succeeding the PPD Adriana Muñoz.
This was expressed by the benches of the Party for Democracy (PPD), the Socialist Party (PS) and the Democratic Revolution (RD) and Independientes, waiting for the legislator for the Atacama region to be elected the second authority in the country.
“We hope that Yasna Provoste will allow us to have, at least in the Senate, the unity of the opposition that this country so badly needs. We are sure that she will be able to attract transversal support from the opposition, because she expresses very well the feelings of the Chilean men and women, ”said the head of the PPD bench, Guido Girardi.
For his part, Senator José Miguel Insulza, representing the PS bench, pointed out that “there are many years of work on this, of effort and dedication with the people to try to improve as a country and I believe that we will have with this designation in the Senate. We are going to have a young leadership, a strong leadership, because she is a woman of great character; I am sure that we will elect the best person to preside over this Senate ”.
The agreement to preside over the Senate table that the opposition achieved in 2018 established that in the last year of this legislative period, both the presidency and the vice-presidency of the Upper House will remain in the hands of the Christian Democrats.
Finally, Senator Yasna Provoste thanked each of the senators’ benches for their support, stating that “I understand my role as a senator of the opposition to be able to contribute significantly to the unity of the opposition, because that is what is good for our country, and we will always be working and supporting all those measures that lead to better opportunities for Chileans ”.
