A traffic accident occurred this Saturday afternoon at kilometer 2 of the Route T-202 that unites the communes of Valdivia and Mariquina in the Los Ríos region.

Specifically, the collision between a tractor and a car It happened around 2:30 p.m. in the sector known as “Cross the Cross” located at the entrance of Mariquina.

The victim was identified as Daniel Melendez Nicolich, 43, who was driving the vehicle and whose death was found at the Mariquina Hospital.

Five minors and three other adults who were also traveling in the car are injured. Two of them are in serious condition and were transferred to the Valdivia hospital, the Prosecutor’s Office reported.

Preliminary information compiled by the Carabineros indicates that the heavy vehicle, which was traveling from north to south, could not dodge the car that would have surprisingly joined the route.

That is, at least, the version that the truck driver gave to the police institution, although the respective investigation will determine the dynamics of the events.

The Public Ministry confirmed the death of the man and instructed the work in the place of the Traffic Accident Investigation Section (SIAT) of Carabineros to determine responsibilities.
