After months of uncertainty, the 2021 edition of the Viña Festival has been definitively canceled, which will be moved to February 2022.
This afternoon, in a new session of the Municipal Council Commissions, the meeting proposed by the Viñamarino municipality with the executives of the concession channels was held. This is how the executive directors of both stations, Francisco Guijón of TVN and Max Luksic of Channel 13, arrived at the meeting, in order to know in detail the proposals designed by the municipality so that the channels can support the commune considering the postponement of the festival 2021.
In this way, the municipality reported, the next version of the contest is moved to the summer of 2022, maintaining the four versions of the current concession contract.
“It has been a very good meeting that we have held together with the council with the executives of the two television channels, TVN and Canal 13, and we have reached an agreement to postpone the next festival, it is postponed for a year, and in that we are going to continue talking to have the best solutions, especially for the reactivation of commerce, tourism, so that Viña del Mar can once again be the city we all love as soon as possible, ”said Mayor Virginia Reginato after the meeting.
Additionally, “an agreement will be signed to support local commerce and tourism through a promotional campaign and the realization of a television program whose protagonist is the city of Viña del Mar,” the municipality said in a statement.
The mayor added: “although by force majeure there will be no Festival this summer, we cannot leave local commerce and tourism without support. Hence the importance of supporting them and as a municipality, from now on we give all our support for their realization ”. For this reason, the community chief continued, “we trust in the experience and professionalism of both channels, but above all, we believe in the love and commitment to Viña del Mar and the thousands of Viñamarina families that have been affected by this pandemic. These are complex times for everyone, but it is precisely these circumstances in which collaborative work takes on all its value. And this agreement will certainly be a demonstration of that ”.
It was also established that the final wording of this solution by common agreement will return to the municipal council for approval, so that later its final text is sent to the Comptroller General of the Republic to give legal certainty to all parties, they explain from the municipality.
For their part, the organizing channels released a joint statement confirming the agreement with the municipality and that “it is due to the interest and concern of all stakeholders to take care of the health and well-being of people, due to the sanitary conditions of the Pandemic”. They also added that “once the suspension is formalized and the corresponding modifications to the Concession Contract have been made, TVN and Channel 13 will evaluate alternatives to promote tourism in the city of Viña del Mar, understanding the relevance of the Festival for the V region.”
Last week, Reginato already gave light of an eventual cancellation of the event, accepting the cause of “force majeure” that considers the concession contract, through which the organizing channels expressed the impossibility of carrying out the 2021 version of the musical contest product of the pandemic.
“We are in November and the sanitary conditions still prevent the holding of massive and especially international events,” acknowledged the mayor after the council committee session last Tuesday. “The country is still in a state of exception, subject to rules and strict protocols established by the health authority, which, like experts, estimate that the restrictions will be maintained for next summer given the development shown by the pandemic by covid 19 ″, he added through a statement.
