The Valparaíso Maritime Meteorological Center issued a special warning of Abnormal Tidal Waves, which will be presented on the coast, from Arica to the Gulf of Penas, including the Juan Fernández Archipelago, projecting sea conditions such as swells from the southwest.
The institution had already reported another phenomenon between Wednesday and Saturday, which has manifested itself with intensity in La Serena and Viña del Mar.
The Navy reported that it is estimated that the onset of this condition will manifest from Sunday, May 10 and last until Wednesday, May 13, reaching its greatest development in the respective high tide hours and according to local wind conditions.
The head of the Valparaíso Maritime Meteorological Center, Commander Roberto Díaz Schall explained that “an active frontal system that will manifest itself in the southern part of the country, will generate swells and waves of up to five meters high that will project like southwestern swells throughout the national continental coastline, producing strong breaks, overshoots and potential damage to coastal infrastructure mainly in bays open to that direction. It is for this reason that we have categorized this event as Warning of Abnormal Tidal waves ”.
