He Senator Alejandro Navarro (PRO) on Wednesday filed a complaint with the Bar Association against Samuel Donoso and Gabriel Zaliasnik, those who accuse of intimidation and pressure to Justice, within the framework of the investigation carried out by the Prosecutor’s Office against the former Minister of Health, Jaime Mañalich, President Sebastián Piñera and Undersecretary Arturo Zúñiga, by the number of infections and deaths associated with covid-19.
The foregoing, as a result of the “threatening and intimidating expressions” that the lawyer of the former Health Minister, Gabriel Zaliasnik, made against the former Minsal official, Andrea Albagli, who revealed in his statement to the Prosecutor’s Office that he was asked to manipulate the contagion database to make it match the Ministry’s data.
Zaliasnik said on that occasion through an interview in the newspaper La Segunda, that Albagli presented “false testimony with an ideological motive” and that in his capacity as defense attorney “he has the duty to persecute him.”
“We will exercise the corresponding criminal actions,” said the lawyer at that time.
In this regard, Navarro accused Donoso and Zaliasnik of pressuring the Judiciary in the brief they presented to the Supreme Court in what he described as a text “full of disqualifications and exclamation marks, abandoning the reasonable and respectful tone that lawyers should have before the courts.”
After the presentation, Navarro pointed out that “it is not acceptable for the lawyers of the President of the Republic to resort to extrajudicial elements in the defense process.”
“Piñera’s defense intimidates witnesses with threats, with criminal actions, with disqualifications, which turns out to be inadmissible. If that is the field in which as lawyers for Piñera and Mañalich they want to play, they will not drag us to that field of disqualifications and intimidation of witnesses, ”criticized the parliamentarian.
“Political disqualification has no place in a judicial process, and we hope that this will also be the evaluation of the ethics commission of the Bar Association,” he added.
In that sense, Navarro told BioBioChile that “the bullying of Zaliasnik has no limits against the Prosecutor’s Office, has made unacceptable political accusations and has used the result of the constitutional accusation, which has nothing to do with his intervention. it has been the attitude of seven opposition parliamentarians who abstained, the one that avoided the conviction of Mañalich ”.
“I hope that the Supreme Court takes note that it is facing a very special defense, which intimidates witnesses, puts pressure on prosecutors and is now sending signals to the Supreme Court,” concluded the senator from Bío Bío.
