Through a letter addressed to the militants of the Frente Amplio, the national table of the bloc addressed the current situation they are experiencing after the resignation of deputies Pablo Vidal and Natalia Castillo to the Democratic Revolution (RD) and the departure of the Liberal Party (PL ) of the block.
The letter addresses the policy of alliances of the conglomerate in the face of the election of constitutional conventions and gives details of the failure of the negotiations with the Socialist Party that aimed to reach a list of unity of the entire center-left. The thesis of unity of the sector has been strongly defended by Beatriz Sánchez, who after the fracturing of the conglomerate is re-evaluating her options to compete as presidential standard-bearer.
“In October we invited all the opposition, parties and social organizations to a fraternal dialogue. We sat at the table with everyone. With everyone. We insisted again in November with the Socialist Party, because we understood that there may be a vocation for transformation there, which on several occasions has been expressed in Congress, together with the FA and the PC. We sat down at the table, the proposal was presented and the answer was, unfortunately, negative, ”the letter reads.
The text then leaves open the possibility to agree with opposition parties, just on days when the three FA communities (Democratic Revolution, Commons and Social Convergence) are close to closing an electoral pact for the election of the Constitutional Convention with Chile Digno, coalition that groups together the PC, the Humanist Movement and the Equality Party, among others.
(…) But we keep the doors open because the efforts to build the majorities to change Chile are fundamental (…) And have no doubts, we will persist in inviting and bringing together the social, political and citizen forces that, sincerely, want to change the country”, Reads at the end of the letter from the FA’s national table.
The letter also comes at a time when the current PS table has proposed to create a “strong benchmark of the democratic left” in which they propose to form a social democratic axis centered on the parties of the Progressive Convergence (PS, PPD and PR) and what do you want to add to the PL and some referents of RD.
“It seemed important to us to tell the Frente Amplio militancy because the efforts of articulation and unity did not have answers at the same time as we made a call to continue working with more force to overcome the social pact of the transition and have a new Constitution that guarantees social rights and give back the prominence to citizens ”, the president of Comunes told La Tercera, Jorge Ramirez.
Likewise, in the letter to their membership, the leaders of the bloc make a self-criticism regarding the three years they have been a parliamentary force.
“To all of us as militants, supporters, supporters and even as one more voter, it has been our turn to defend ourselves from caricatures, nicknames and prejudices. It is the new. It is the fear of change. And despite the liters of ink that have been used to interpret who we are and where we are going; that has not changed, ”the letter reads.
There it is also added that “In these three years of existence we have made mistakes and we have been right. It is part of our learning. But we have put all the effort and love to do the best ”.
