Less than 24 hours after one of the truckers’ unions carried out a series of roadblocks -in the framework of a national strike-, the national prosecutor, Jorge Abbott, decided to open seven criminal investigations to determine if said demonstrations were organized , at some point, the crime that penalizes those who impede free passage on streets, routes or highways. The Public Ministry will investigate these behaviors under the so-called “Anti-Barrier Law”.

The highest authority of the prosecutor’s office sent a letter to seven regions in which these crimes would have been configured, according to audiovisual records captured in Los Lagos, Los Ríos, Maule, Biobío, Ñuble, Regional Metropolitana Occidente and Valparaíso. All of them opened an investigation and will carry out procedures to establish who is responsible for these events.

Added to this is the criminal complaint filed yesterday by the DC deputy, Gabriel Ascencio, who asked the Public Ministry to intervene and criminally prosecute those who interrupted free movement in the middle of demonstrations. In the accusation, the parliamentarian attached videos in which the alleged blockade of routes and barricades is recorded. Abbott responded today to the legislator, who will proceed with his complaint.

In the morning, the Minister of Health, Enrique Paris, had warned that some ambulances had their journey interrupted due to this protest called by one of the truckers’ unions -the CNTC- and which received a response at the national level, according to its organizers.
