For almost an hour the national prosecutor, Jorge Abbott, He connected through a live on the Instagram of the Public Ministry to address the various challenges of the entity on its 21st anniversary.

On the occasion, the head of the persecutors referred to the controversy that arose regarding the delivery of the middle class bond after the Internal Revenue Service (SII) indicated that more than 430 thousand people received the amount delivered by the State without meeting the requirements and that of that total, 37,100 were public officials.

As a result, the Public Ministry made the decision to open a criminal investigation into what happened and Abbott instructed the director of the SII, Fernando Barraza, to deliver the complete list of people who committed the infractions. On that occasion, the prosecutor reported that the investigation could be for the possible crimes of fraud of subsidies, perjury, among other illicit crimes.

On this, the national prosecutor pointed out -during his interview on the agency’s Instagram- that “according to the information that we are collecting, some have been handed over to us and they say they are related to officials of the Prosecutor’s Office itself. But we are collecting the antecedents of all people, well there would be situations in which people through deception would have obtained this bonus “.

“Here we are going to find many situations. We are going to find situations in which there were errors, situations in which there was simply no intent. But we are also going to find situations that are particularly serious ”, added.

Similarly, Abbott stated that prosecutors “cannot anticipate final trials without investigating exactly what happened.” Thus, he indicated that the process “was not very strict either. Consequently, it was not that one had to go through many steps and ponder much. So, there may be extreme situations that, due to a misunderstanding, have led someone to request this amount ”.

Regarding the sanctions, the prosecutor said that “surely the people who return that amount to those who do not return it will have a different treatment. Those who do not return it probably have an intense criminal reproach and those who return it have a different situation depending on who is the person who requested this benefit. Because if it was requested by a person who has resources and who has no need, the judgment of reproach is much more intense ”.

In addition, the prosecutor Abbott added that if a high-level public official requested the amount of aid from the State, “I think the reproach must be very intense”, unlike what would happen with an auxiliary or administrative.

In the case of the prosecution workers, the prosecutor argued that “In our case, we are going to open administrative investigations, we are going to see what our officials tell us, for what reason they collected that bonus. And probably some have an explanation and others do not.

“Those who do not have any reproach on our part in the administrative field, without prejudice to the corresponding criminal reproach. Always bearing in mind that we have to discern between the people who committed this alleged crime,” he said.

According to the SII’s counts, from Saturday to Thursday, some 15,000 badly awarded bonds have been restored.
