The Ministry of Agriculture announced the decision taken in conjunction with the National Forest Corporation (CONAF), which allows the opening of 21 units of the National System of Protected Wild Areas of the State, distributed in seven regions of the country.

The opening measure is due to the gradual plan presented by President Sebastián Piñera, called “Safe Return” that aims to activate all activities in the country promptly and which has had the support mainly of businessmen interested in reviving the economic life of the country.
As reported from the Agriculture portal, 100 percent of national parks and reserves should be open by the end of this May.
This was stated by the Minister of Agriculture, Antonio Walker, stressing that “contact with nature has broad benefits, both for physical and mental health.”
However, representatives of the country’s lower house, along with members of the Environment Commission, have rejected the measure and asked the authorities for its cancellation at least until September.
The deputy Sebastián Torrealba, representative of the National Renovation party, stressed that the Government’s efforts “must be in the care of all Chileans and avoid contagion.”
Likewise, he assured that “the times are not for touring, nor for exposing all those teams in charge of these spaces.”
Chile, the fourth country with the highest number of infections in Latin America, reported 1,427 confirmed cases of coronavirus along with 13 deaths in the last 24 hours, which represents a record number recorded in a single day.
According to the latest report from the Chilean Ministry of Health, a total of 18,435 positive cases are accumulated, 247 deaths and 9,572 recovered to date.
