The president of the National Chamber of Commerce (CNC) Manuel Melero, played his last card, and the general assembly of the union backed him.

With 48 votes in favor, 4 against and two abstentions, the sale of the Palacio Bruna, current headquarters of the CNC, was agreed. However, the path Melero had to travel to reach such a result was not without setbacks.

It turns out that his proposal comes from before, when last year they tried to sell the property to Sernatur, but in the end it did not work. The fact is that the idea rebounded a couple of months ago and gained more strength in recent days. Given this, a series of councilors such as the former president of the union Pedro Corona Bozzo, questioned Melero’s intention and presented their objections.

Some of that was seen in the vote of the general assembly set for this Tuesday. And it is that Melero’s proposal lost in the first round of the vote by not reaching the minimum quorum of 47.3 votes to settle the decision, and it was not until near the end of the assembly that a group of union advisers intervened advocating that the proposal be reconsidered.

The main arguments focused on the financial situation of the sector, the demand of the facilities of that headquarters and the attractiveness of the new buyer. Apparently those three elements penetrated very strongly within the councilors who had abstained, and it was right there when several changed their votes.

According to some advisers to PULSO, it would be a reasonable amount and the buyer would be a body dependent on the Ministry of Culture. The sale, meanwhile, should be formalized before the end of the year so that the disbursement remains within this year’s budget.

In the afternoon, the CNC sent an official statement confirming the sale of the Palacio Bruna. “The National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism of Chile, both in its board of directors of December 4 of the present, as in its general council and extraordinary assembly of partners cited for this purpose, both instances held today (this Tuesday) , agreed to sell its headquarters, the Palacio Bruna. The aforementioned authorization was subject to agreeing with the buyer the definitive terms and conditions of the corresponding contract, ”the statement said.
