Municipality of Santiago informs that its establishments will begin the school year with remote classes

This Tuesday, the Municipality of Santiago, supporter of 44 establishments in the commune, agreed with representatives of the educational communities of schools and high schools, start the 2021 school year with online classes due to the health contingency generated by the Coronavirus pandemic.

The agreement was taken this Monday, in a meeting headed by the mayor of Santiago, Felipe Alessandri, the head of management of the Directorate of Education, Bárbara Soto and representatives of students, attorneys, teachers, managers and education assistants, reported the municipality through a statement.

“Last year was very complex for all educational communities and families, therefore we formed a work table to analyze the best way to carry out classes in each school and high school dependent on the Municipality. This year we continued talking with the communities and we agreed to start the 2021 school year with online classes “Alessandri explained.

As explained from the mayor’s office, the teaching teams and education assistants will join the establishments next Monday, March 1, as established in the calendar prepared by the Ministry of Education, and classes will start on Wednesday 3, through virtual platforms.

This measure will continue until all education workers have received the second dose of the vaccine and are immunized.

During March, in addition, School Councils will be held to evaluate the return of face-to-face classes considering the particular reality of each establishment.

Alessandri also added that “we put the health of our 34,000 students and their families and of all members of the educational communities first. During March the return to face-to-face classes will be analyzed, once all education officials are vaccinated with both doses and the sanitary conditions of Santiago allow it ”.
