The Department of Health Statistics and Information (DEIS) published the epidemiological description of children and adolescents (NNA) with COVID-19 in Chile.
The document indicates that of the population of children and adolescents between 0 and 18 years of age, 111,649 COVID-19 cases, which represents a cumulative incidence rate in 2020 of 1,440.5 cases per 100,000 NNA and 919 cases per 100,000 NNA in 2021, according to the date of onset of symptoms.
Median age was 11 years and the most frequent symptoms were:
- Headache
- Fever
- Cough
- Odynophagia (pharyngeal pain)
- Myalgia (muscle pain)

While, 2,279 NNA required hospitalization. Of these, 357 were hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and 73 connected to invasive mechanical ventilation.
Of the total hospitalized, 34% corresponded to the age group under 2 years of age, of which 597 were under 1 year of age.
In addition, 81 deceased. Of them, 64 had at least 1 comorbidity.
On the other hand, until March 24, 174 cases with Multisystemic Inflammatory Syndrome (PIMS). In total, three deaths from PIMS are lamented.
