Within the framework of the National Mycotoxin Program, the ISP has communicated that in a sample of corn flour made in Chile, from the brand “La Fuente Natural”, it found a high concentration of fumonisins of at least twice that allowed in the Food Sanitary Regulations.

Fumonisins correspond to a family of mycotoxins that contaminate corn. In relation to the values that were detected in the batch, it does not put people’s health at risk in an acute way, such as upset stomach, nausea, vomiting, but they do constitute a future health danger if consumed in high concentrations and chronically.

As a precautionary measure, it has been decided to withdraw from the market batch No. 0504020186 of “La Fuente Natural” corn flour, which was prepared on October 15, 2020 and whose expiration date is October 15, 2021. In addition , the packaging indicates that it is a Chilean product.

In addition, the Ministry of Health calls on people not to consume flour that corresponds to this batch if they have it in their homes.
