The Undersecretary of Health, Paula Daza, reported this Tuesday that the first case of a person infected with the new strain of covid-19, the one that was discovered a few days ago in the UK.
The case was detected from a Chilean passenger from Madrid, who was in London and Dubai previously, testing positive for covid-19 and detecting the British strain of this disease in her.
It is about a woman who arrived on December 21 on Iberia flight 6838 and then on December 22, took a plane from Santiago to Temuco, JetSmart flight 281. In addition, passengers on these flights should contact the local health authorities.
The woman -who is asymptomatic- kept quarantine in a home in Panguipulli, Los Ríos region, and after detecting the new strain, she has been transferred to the commune hospital, like the rest of her close contacts.
“The Seremi de Salud is making the connection with all the people who traveled from Santiago to Temuco. We already have the information on the flight from Spain to Chile for traceability ”, explained Daza.
This strain was announced in mid-December by the British authorities, who described it as “out of control” and blamed it for the increase in infections on the island. have been rated as more contagious, although there is no evidence that it causes more symptoms or more deaths.
After learning about this new strain, several countries began to restrict the entry of people who have been to the United Kingdom, even suspending all flights to the island.
In Chile, The Government reported on the prohibition of entering our country to all foreigners (non-residents) who have been in that country during the last 14 days.
Regarding the situation of the pandemic in Chile, the total number of people who have been diagnosed with covid-19 in the country reaches 603,986. Of this total, 13,447 patients are in the active stage. The recovered cases are 573,681.
