During the daily balance of the Ministry of Health, the Undersecretary of Healthcare Networks, Dr. Alberto Dougnac expressed the authority’s concern at the low public perception of the real danger posed by the pandemic, considering that more than 40% would be reluctant to get vaccinated, according to a study by the Universidad del Desarrollo.

“There is a very high percentage of the population who have a low perception of the risk that this disease means”Dougnac said.

According to the undersecretary, “part of the work we have to do is to continue educating the population, the importance of this type of prevention measures, because as we are seeing in other countries, if we do not take the appropriate measures, we can face a regrowth of the same or greater magnitude that we had to suffer last winter “.

“Chile has a culture of vaccines that has been going on for many years,” said Dougnac, explaining that “depending on the type of vaccine, we will implement the corresponding strategy. In principle, the first vaccine that would be available uses the same logistics as that of AH1N1, therefore there is a lot of experience at the national level ”.

Health Minister Enrique Paris, meanwhile, added that an information campaign should be worked on. “We hope that this campaign is successful, sending messages to the population, advertising, making known the importance of getting vaccinated to avoid getting sick ourselves and our family.”

In detail, the study by the Universidad del Desarrollo concluded that, given the availability of a free vaccine, 38.7% of those surveyed would be vaccinated immediately, 21.6% only if it was mandatory and 20.2% not would be vaccinated (41.8% of reluctant people), while 19.5% answered that they did not know.
