Next January 4 was supposed to be the decisive date for the news regarding the Paso Paso plan. On that day, it was said, the government would hold a “key” meeting to decide what would happen to the communes in the face of the summer season, the projection of a second wave and the increase in cases that has been registered in recent weeks.
However, the announcements have been brought forward to this day, also changing the date of the Covid balance from La Moneda, which is normally scheduled for Thursdays.
In recent days the conditions of the pandemic have changed in the country, with the sustained increase in positivity and the arrival of first case of the Covid-19 variant from the United Kingdom to Chile.
At the country level, there are 9 communes that are in Quarantine, 122 in Transition, 180 in Preparation and 33 in Initial Opening. The Metropolitan Region fell back in its entirety from December 10 to the Transition phase (Step 2), which leads to a ban on interregional travel.
As it was announced, at the Covid meeting last Monday the government seeks to make more comprehensive modifications, such as define the duration of future quarantines and link them to indicators that allow people to know when their communes will be able to leave the confinement or advance in the opening.
At the regional level, they want to establish a minimum of weekly PCR tests and active searches, in addition to defining and communicating incidence rates associated with each stage of the Step by Step plan. This with the objective that the population understands the indicators that must be achieved in order to move from one level to another.
