The Ministry of Health made its first balance of the year on the situation of the coronavirus in the country, noting that 3,588 new cases and 52 deaths were registered due to illness on the last day.
It is the highest number of infections since last July 5 and the second consecutive day in which it exceeds three thousand a day.

Furthermore, a record number of PCR tests were reported for a single day, reaching the figure of 50,583, having a positivity of 7.09%.
Of the new cases, 2,321 people were reported to have shown symptoms, 1,132 were asymptomatic, and 135 were not yet notified.
With these numbers, 612,564 total infections were reached since the beginning of the pandemic, with a total of 16,600 deaths due to the disease.
In addition, the number of people hospitalized in Intensive Care Units increased to 794, with 611 of them connected to mechanical ventilation and 68 in critical condition.
In this way, the figure of active patients due to the disease amounted to 16,355.
At the national level 829 people were arrested by the Carabineros during the New Year celebrations, between the last day of 2020 and 6 a.m. on Friday, January 1.
Of the total number of persons deprived of liberty, 327 were controlled during the curfew, which ran from 2am to 7am. Of these, 227 people were detained in regions and 100 in the Metropolitan Region.
At the national level and during the last day, 829 people were deprived of liberty.

As reported by Carabineros, 162,862 temporary permits were delivered through the Virtual Police Station in the last 24 hours in our country and, mainly, in the nine communes that are in total quarantine (Angol, Arauco, Cabo de Hornos, Cañete, Curanilahue, Curicó, Lautario, Los Angeles and Puerto Natales).
The most requested permits were 114,169 for make purchases, 27,552 for others (such as attending funerals, paying for services, etc.) and 8,015 to attend health centers.
