The Minister of the Interior, Victor Perez, admitted during the night of this Monday that it is on the table to invoke the State Security Law in the face of the shortage that has generated the stoppage of truckers in some areas of the south of the country.

In part, the authority reiterated the message it delivered prior to the meeting, and stressed that the mobilization “causes a risk of shortages”, so it said that in that meeting they coordinated to prevent that from happening.
Faced with this situation, he remarked that “It is not fair that in a pandemic people cannot have access to medicines, fuel, heating”, so he called on truckers to fulfill their initial promise not to cut the supply chain.
Previously, the union announced its rejection of the proposal made by the Government, which offered more police investment in the Southern Macrozone as central axes; more thermal cameras for the routes; two new rest areas; and a “reparation fund for victims of violence against drivers.”
“We were minutes away from reaching an agreement, we built a joint agreement (…) something did not work in the different organizations ”, pointed out Pérez.
During the weekend, the situation began to escalate on the main routes of the country, where truckers began to make sporadic cuts and forced some drivers to join the strike under threats.
Little by little, the stoppage began to cause fuel shortages in some towns in the Los Lagos region and even some auditors from Radio Bío Bío began to report “controls” of truckers on Route 5, demanding that carriers present their dispatch guide to know the content of your cargo and determine if it was essential enough to let them pass.
In this context, this Monday the Chilexpress company announced the suspension of shipments from Valdivia to Chiloé due to the difficulties caused by the strike.
