The Minister of the Interior, Victor PerezHe pointed to an “organized group” as responsible for the attack on police in the Contulmo area, in the Biobío Region.
The incident left three police officers and two community members injured, in addition to the two burned trucks.
From the Palacio de La Moneda, Pérez said that the four police officers – who according to the Government were in investigative work – “were brutally attacked” for which they had to flee the place and hide in a nearby hill.
“The attack was perpetrated by a very organized group of seven to eight people, this is yet to be verified, but very violent, well armed, which forced this group of officials (…) to have to protect themselves to avoid further damage, “he said.
The minister added that this type of attack “will try to inhibit the investigative actions of the Carabineros, but I am sure they will not succeed.”
According to preliminary information, the carabinieri staged an armed confrontation at the entrance to the Elicura Valley. The policemen moved in vehicles without institutional logos.
