One of the doubts that currently exists is whether the quarantines will increase before the April 11 elections. And it is that the increase in cases has led several voices to begin to rethink changing the date of the elections, or that more severe measures are taken in the days before the elections so that they can be carried out with a lower rate of daily infections.

The Minister of Health, Enrique Paris, said last night that the measure, “may be an argument that must be taken into account.”

Interviewed in Estado Nacional, in 24 Hours, he declared that it is a decision that is made “on Mondays or Thursdays.” He recalled that the government has spoken with parties, who have indicated that there was no encouragement for the elections to be postponed.

He announced that tomorrow, Monday, the Covid cases will be 6,300, in addition to 70 thousand tests. He stressed that prior to the arrival of March there were three types of forecasts, the worst being having 9 thousand cases a day, something that Paris hopes will not be fulfilled.

The Health Minister considered that it was not a mistake to hand over the vacation permits, but perhaps improvements should have been made in risk communication. “There I think we failed.”

Although at first, Paris was brief to refer to the statements given in the week by the president of the Medical College, Izkia Siches, where she described in harsh terms the Government, Minister Paris and the health policies imposed by the pandemic in the country.

“I was president of the Medical College of Chile for two periods and I never referred to a minister of health in those terms (…) I think the words were not appropriate.” And he added that he considered that he had “an incredible lack of judgment and lack of measure.”

He stressed that, “it is childish as the rector (Carlos) Peña said (…) I think she was unfortunately unwise, but I am not going to argue.”

“I have tolerated his outbursts, and I am ready to continue talking. Maybe I will seem like I tolerate it too much, some have told me that, but no. I believe that it is necessary to maintain a certain margin of dialogue, of high-mindedness, of democratic coexistence in order to continue advancing in this country ”.
