This morning the Minister of Health, Enrique Paris, spoke on Radio Pauta about the three scenarios (mild, serious and very serious) that the Government has considered in the face of the arrival of a second wave of coronavirus, in addition to the protocols that have been prepared for the eclipse on December 14 and the end of the year parties.
Regarding the plan and the second wave of coronavirus, Minister Paris stressed that the most important thing is “to reinforce risk communication, reinforce the TTA plan (testing, traceability and isolation) and reinforce everything that education means”:
“It is not just an increase in the number of beds, as it is what the plan has tried to minimize. What has caught our attention is that there is an increase in southern Chile, there are more cases in La Araucanía, more cases in Biobío … Magallanes maintains a high circulation ”, Held. “What worries us the most is that the Metropolitan Region has an increase of 10% (of cases).”
On this, he indicated, one of the main causes is due to relaxation of self-care measures.
“There is a poor perception of the population when mobility increases, but also people take off the mask to talk on a cell phone, to smoke … of course it increases the possibility of being infected. Indian. “People do not respect the distancing, within the establishments yes, but in the sidewalk everything is agglomerated … There I ask for collaboration from the municipalities.”
This phenomenon of the second wave and increase in cases is similar to what Uruguay is experiencing at the moment, a country that always handled very few daily infections and now has 500 cases each day, which for them “is outrageous.” This country, he added, has just announced a plan very similar to ours to face this second wave.
The strategy with the three scenarios, he indicated, had to announce them, since “if he does not do it they criticize him, if he does they criticize him.”
“I think it is better for people to understand, and be prepared and know that if they are not careful we are going to have a second wave as severe as in Europe”, he warned.
Regarding the question of what to do in the face of the projections that are made for the summer, as far as people want to know if they can travel south to vacation at the moment, Paris indicates that it is very difficult at the moment to think about going to do tourism in the southern part of the country due to the high contagion rates they handle.
“I think that at this minute, if you put me against the back of the wall, obviously in La Araucanía, in the Los Lagos Region, Los Ríos … It is impossible for us to say in this scenario today, we will have the possibility of doing tourism there“, Held. “They have to come out of quarantine, improve their rates.”
“At this minute I would not go on my vacation to the south because the viral circulation is very high,” he added. “In Punta Arenas we still have a high viral circulation, unfortunately, CRPs are higher in the south than in the north.”
This, he adds, “is not only the responsibility of the population.” “I assume the responsibility of the health authority there as well,” he said.
This is why, he adds, that “unless they make the maximum effort to work in conjunction with the authority” to lower their figures, “it is impossible” to consider going on vacation to that area.
Regarding the transfer between regions, the minister indicated that it “was liberalized, but for the new year stage, for the Easter stage and for the eclipse, limitations will be set.”
“For the summer, we are going to have to see to what degree the viral circulation is, there is a little”, He explained. That is why, he adds, they wanted to do the projection with the three different scenarios.
“If we see that the curve continues to rise, we are going to have to tell people that they are going to have to limit displacement,” he said.
“Many countries have done the same. Take care now to have a good summer, take care now to avoid stricter measures being taken, let’s prepare now to have a good summer, but let’s not liberalize now because we will have difficulties with permits in the summer”He warned.
In addition to this, he was also asked about the possible return of the public to the stadiums, to which the minister indicated that it is very complex to still think about this, since it is very difficult to have control of the people, since “they shout, it is embraced … it is very difficult to control and the virus spreads very easily ”.
“We are interested in sports, but we are in a very precarious situation to say that we are going to receive public at this time,” he explained.
