The Minister of the Interior, Víctor Pérez, questioned whether the prosecution accredits the crime of attempted homicide in the case of the minor who fell into the Mapocho River from the Pío Nono Bridge, supposedly pushed by the Carabinero Sebastián Zamora, according to the investigation of the prosecutor Ximena Chong.
“It is a sad, dramatic event. The relevant opinion is that determined by the courts, ”said the chief of staff in an interview with Channel 13, where he reiterated that the prosecution gave three versions of the event.
Regarding the formalization for the crime of attempted homicide, which has Zamora in preventive prison, Pérez pointed out: “(The prosecution) will have to prove it. Three years ago, the prosecution said that Senator Jacqueline van Ryselberghe he had committed the crime of bribery, but it was proven that he had not, in a ruling that had no major repercussions ”.
Asked if this statement was pointing to the prosecutor Ximena Chong (Fisheries Law case), he pointed out: “What I am trying to say is that we wait for the investigations.”
About a possible Prosecutor Chong’s bias, Pérez said: “Let’s hope there isn’t”, to later warn about the crime of frustrated homicide for which Zamora is in preventive prison that “I doubt, but it is a personal opinion, that it ends in attempted murder (the case).
Pérez also pointed out that it was an error on the part of the Carabineros to contradict itself in the versions of the event that occurred in Pío Nono on Friday, October 2. “We have spoken with the Carabineros so that the first version is undeniable. In this case, I think it was a mistake (the first statement) and we are taking measures so that things like this do not happen ”.
Refering to situation of the general director of the Carabineros, Mario Rozas, who remains in office despite the opinion of different political sectors and human rights organizations, Pérez explained that “the evaluation of the Carabineros commanders is made by the President every year. I believe that the Carabineros is selflessly doing its job. In recent years, 48 Carabineros generals have left and the problem has not been solved, the discussion is more in-depth ”.
Finally, in reference to the constitutional accusation that was presented against him this Thursday, Pérez regretted that there were political sectors that conditioned their support for the libel on asking General Rozas to resign.
“Who knows me, knows that I am not going to do that (make a decision to avoid the constitutional accusation against him). I am not in politics to bear blackmail. Many in politics succumb to blackmail, but I don’t”, He assured.
