At the age of 67, the Minister of the Supreme Court passed away this Sunday night, Carlos Aránguiz, who was suffering from a respiratory disease.
Aránguiz studied law at the University of Chile and in 2001 he was appointed Minister of the Court of Appeals of Rancagua.
One year later, in 2002, his figure gained public notoriety when he was appointed minister on a visit to the so-called Coimas Case, a corruption scandal that compromised parliamentarians and officials of the government of then President Ricardo Lagos.
As Minister of the Supreme Court he was sworn in in January 2014, and on the occasion he assumed his functions in the Fourth Chamber of the highest court.
In its beginnings, Aránguiz was secretary of the First Criminal Court of Valparaíso, served as a judge in Los Andes, San Felipe and Valparaíso, and was a judicial prosecutor in Coyhaique.
Furthermore, according to a profile published by the Judiciary, “it was the main promoter of the ambitious ‘Simple Language’ project, which through workshops, seminars, manuals and outreach activities sought to promote and implement the use of understandable language in court decisions. ”.
In parallel to his judicial career, Aránguiz published eight books of literary content, and was a member of the Chilean Academy of Language.
