This morning it was learned that the Office of the Comptroller General of the Republic began a process to file charges against seven high-ranking Carabineros commanders for their possible administrative responsibility in the acts of violence that were generated as of October 18 of last year.

The Minister of the Interior was consulted on this, Victor Perez, which stated that the Comptroller’s Office “makes thousands of summaries and an administrative summary has stages. This is at the beginning where the Comptroller’s Office formulates charges and those charges are notified to the people who have a deadline to defend themselves, therefore, those charges can be disproved ”.

Despite this, the Secretary of State indicated that the government “You are going to look closely at this process”, but that “we are struck by the emergence of some charges of anonymous complaints or of people who have been questioning the actions of the Carabineros.”

According to the information published by Radio Biobío, the Comptroller’s process began after receiving anonymous complaints from individuals and international human rights organizations.

Pérez also indicated that “We are sure that the Carabineros has used, in this case, all the mechanisms established by law. Undoubtedly, Carabineros has been subjected, as of October 18, to an unprecedented effort. Nobody was prepared to face the explosion of violence that happened in our cities. Demonstrations are one thing and violence is another ”.

The seven senior commanders correspond to Ricardo Yáñez Reveco (National Director of Order and Security), Inspector Generals Jorge Valenzuela Hernández (National Director of Support for Police Operations), Mauricio Rodríguez Rodríguez (Chief of the Metropolitan Area), Enrique Bassaletti Riess ( Santiago East Zone Manager), Enrique Monrás Álvarez (West Santiago Zone Manager), Hugo Zenteno Vásquez (Valparaíso Zone V Manager) and Jean Camus Dávila (Logistics Director).

In a statement, Carabineros indicated that “The information will be provided that allows the development of the proceedings carried out” the Comptroller’s Office but that it is “appropriate to remember that the context of the period in question was one of extreme violence with 8,957 events of serious disturbances of public order.”
