Former President Ricardo Lagos defended the former Minister of Health, Jaime Mañalich, against the constitutional accusation promoted by the opposition against the resigned Secretary of State for his handling of the coronavirus pandemic in Chile.
“He is accused because we may have different political thoughts from the point of view of how to tackle the pandemic, but it is a discussion about public policy. That does not authorize a constitutional accusation, because that implies fraud of that person and Minister Mañalich played it.”Said Lagos in an interview with the program A esta hora se improvisa on Channel 13.

Regarding the relationship between the government and the opposition in the face of the pandemic, Lagos said that “we have to find ways to understand each other and I have no doubt that it is possible.”
The accusation against Mañalich entered Congress with the signatures of deputies from the PR, PC, PPD and FA, however, the presentation was not signed by parliamentarians from the PS or the DC.
