Minister Juan Cristóbal Mera issued the first civil judgment against former President Frei after Bank of Chile lawsuit

The Minister of Jurisdiction of the Court of Appeals, Juan Cristóbal Mera issued the first civil judgment against former President Eduardo Frei Ruiz-Tagle, after the Bank of Chile’s lawsuit for an unpaid debt of 50 million pesos.

The resolution, to which the Radio Bío Bío Research Unit, says that the next step is for the bank to execute Mera’s ruling through the auction of assets or seizures.

However, the resolution can be appealed before the Santiago Court of Appeals with the aim of reversing Mera’s sentence.

It is worth noting that the former head of state faces another 13 lawsuits substantiated by ministers of jurisdiction that are in process. Most of these legal actions were filed by other banks and factoring companies.

On the other hand, the magistrate Soledad Melo ordered on August 3 the seizure of a Cherokee truck belonging to Frei, due to a debt with the Security bank.

In addition, the former President filed a complaint against his brother Francisco Freiante at the Seventh Guarantee Court of Santiago, for the crimes of fraud and misappropriation.

The case is in charge of the North Central prosecutor Francisco Jacir, and joins four other legal actions for similar events, filed by affected companies.
