Minister Delgado visits Colchane and announces the first flight to expel migrants from Iquique | National

The Ministers of the Interior, Defense and Foreign Relations, arrived during the morning of this Tuesday in Colchane, in the Tarapacá region, within the framework of the migration crisis who lives the area.

Delgado, Allamand and Prokurica they visited the border crossing. It should be remembered that the visit was scheduled prior to what happened last week, the death of at least two immigrants in that place.

The Interior Minister, Rodrigo Delgado, declared about the application of technical reinforcements, including the work of the army, that “this is part of a process that cannot be overnight.”

The Colchane Plan would consist of joint work by the police and the Army, both in surveillance and in common technology.

“They are migrating for a reason,” recalled Delgado. However, he said: “Tell those people who plan to come to Chile, and who want to go through an irregular passage, that they want to enter clandestinely, these people are not going to be regularized“.

On this point he also specified that from Iquique, this Wednesday will leave the first return of expulsion with more than 100 people, mostly Venezuelans.

He also pointed out that if the Immigration Law is enacted, “we will have the possibility of expediting the expulsion.”

“We have to act, not only to take care of Chile and Chileans but also to take care of people who are deceived from abroad ”, he emphasized.

The minister also assured that as a government they would deliver a plan to support Colchane, including that the commune will have permanent electricity.

External relationships

For his part, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andrés Allamand, announced that they will start a publicity campaign abroad on the Government’s measures regarding immigration.

He also explained a coordinated work with the authorities of Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador and Colombia, in relation to the Palermo Agreement, to prepare a legal offensive and dismantle the gangs involved in the human trafficking.

During the day, the ministers are expected to go to the Police Station and the shelter provided in the commune. According to Radio Bío Bío, at noon the authorities would move to Iquique to meet with local authorities.
