Minister Briones defends the tax on the second withdrawal of 10%: “We all have to contribute a little”

The Minister of Finance, Ignacio Briones, referred to the payment of taxes that the second withdrawal of 10% of pension funds will have to face the economic crisis of covid-19.

At that point, Briones pointed out that not the vast majority will not pay taxes: “I will not tire of giving the same example: 8 out of 10 Chileans do not pay income taxes “, said the Secretary of State who added that “We all have to contribute a little.”

Briones emphasized that only those people who earn more than 700 thousand pesos will pay taxes for withdrawing part of their pension funds.

Likewise, the minister assured that a large part of the Chileans who will receive the money have not suffered the loss of their income. “What we know about the retirement is that two out of every three pesos withdrawn are from people who have not lost their jobs”, he pointed.

On the possibility of eliminating taxes, as it is intended to modify in the Chamber of Deputies, the owner of the Treasury was clear. “Nothing is being modified in the project. If we start to change the rules we have, we talk about other things,” he closed.
