The National Defense Headquarters of the Metropolitan Region affirmed through a statement that the march called by supporters of the “Rejection” option for the constitutional plebiscite, held this Saturday, was not authorized by them, denying one of the organizers of the demonstration.

The military headquarters spoke in this way after one of the organizers of the march, the lawyer Raúl Meza –who has represented inmates of Punta Peuco-, assured the press that “the march was fully authorized (…) by the Army through General Carlos Ricotti“, head of national defense in the Metropolitan Region during the state of catastrophe that governs the pandemic.
In any case, the military leadership admitted to having sent a document to the organizers warning that they had to comply with the health regulations in force due to the pandemic.

Difference in treatment by the Carabineros?
During the day there have been different questioning of the Carabineros acting in the Rejection march, which he escorted, compared with other manifestations, such as the one carried out by Nursing Technicians (TENS) in Alameda, who gathered to demand its inclusion in the Health Code.
That demonstration of about a thousand health workers, which took place around 10:00 am in Plaza Baquedano; they did not advance more than five blocks and in the Gabriela Mistral Cultural Center sector they were dispersed by police. Ended up with eight detainees.

Carabineros clarifies action protocol
The Carabineros explained that the The difference in the protocol applied in each demonstration is due to the phase of deconfinement of the “Step by step” plan in which each commune is located: Las Condes in phase 3, of preparation, which lifts the quarantine all week; and Santiago in phase 2, of transition, which maintains the quarantine during the weekend.
